Susan Prout
Recognized as the 2005 NASP School Psychologist of the Year!

Susan Prout, EdS, has been a practicing school psychologist for 25 years. She currently serves as a school psychologist with the Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington, KY where she has been since 1999. She completed the Certification Program in School Psychology at James Madison University in Virginia in 1981 and received her EdS from James Madison in 1996.

Susan is widely respected by her colleagues for her professionalism, ethics, and commitment to employing research-based and educationally valid interventions. She has made a particular commitment to implementing effective, culturally appropriate assessment, interventions, and mental health services to English Language Learners, and has developed a best practice model in this area. Colleagues and parents also note Susan’s genuine love for children. Parents of one student wrote, Susan “made it seem like [our son] was the only child who was her responsibility. She is gifted to be able to show such empathy and translate it into practical solutions to succeed socially and intellectually.”

Susan also has taught graduate courses in the areas of child development, early childhood, and emotional/developmental disabilities. She has published several journal articles and book chapters with her husband and others on topics of ethics, mental retardation, and self-concept.
